About Us

Performance Engagements Ltd was formerly known as Turns Ltd.

The Turns concept, to help performers to help themselves, was started by Gavin Hackett in 1996, who traded as Turns. In 1998, Gavin set up a comany, Turns Ltd, and licensed some of his ideas to the new company.

Armed with little more than unbridled enthusiasm, Gavin and his cohorts (most notably Steve Ullathorne) started projects in recruitment to help pay the bills; promoted gigs; started a record label for unsigned bands; supported short films, new theatre and even a community opera; started a comedy club; promoted music and comedy nights at the world-famous 100 Club; and broadly tried to take over the world.

Gavin left the business some years ago to persue new opportunities in France. One by one the various "peripheral" activities tailed off and, as the economy declined, so did the business.

In February 2009, Turns Ltd had to cease trading, as the availability of viable credit facilities required to support a much-reduced business dried up. As a result of this action, the Turns name and other things which were licensed to the company by Gavin reverted to him; the company changed its name to Performance Engagements Ltd to reflect that reversion.

It is hoped that some of the community aspects of Turns can live on - keep an eye on www.turns.net to see if anything is happening.
